5 Things NOT to do when Preparing your Home for a Virtual Showing

COVID-19 has certainly shaken things up when it comes to Listing your home.

There are so many Buyers out there now, so you better be using your valuable Quarantine Time to be getting your home ready for Virtual Showings (and in-person showings as well). Here are 5 Do's and Don't's for prepping your home:

  1. DON'T let your yard get overgrown...you have plenty of time on your hands for your yard work. Also, DON'T dump a lot of money into paying a Landscaper, you will probably not see enough Return on Investment.
DO spend time raking, cleaning up sticks/debris, weeding, mowing, pruning, fertilizing, and watering. Consider adding potted flowers for an extra boost of color. YOU CAN DO THIS!
  2. DON'T just assume no one's going to show and let your house become your dumping ground.
DO Deep Clean...Again, you have plenty of free time people. Clean the floors, dust, clean windows, shelves, and countertops. And DO de-clutter, it's a necessity, even consider moving your things to a storage unit if you have a lot of Stuff.
  3. DON'T close off your house or turn off lights. You want potential Buyers to be in and out without touching anything, right?
DO turn on all lights, making it feel welcome. Keep all doors open; this way, potential Buyers or Agents can walk through the house freely without touching things.
  4. DON'T leave it to chance; in all reality, there is a Virus going around. DON'T assume everyone will bring the right protection.
DO ask your Realtor to set up a Sanitizing Station at the entrance or set one up yourself. This should include Gloves, Booties, Sanitizer, and Wipes. Good idea to also have a courtesy sign asking Buyers to not touch doors, lights, etc.
  5. DON'T do any experimental cooking or leave any lingering odors on the day of a showing. As much as this is a fun time to try new recipes, wait on making that new Indian dish until tomorrow.
DO bake cookies, take out the trash, and get rid of the cat box! Smells are also like tastes, so try to keep your candles/ air fresheners as neutral as possible.
