Blog > Charleston Holiday Events
Holidays in the Lowcountry are always special. They’re always BRIGHT! Fireworks are sold from trailers set up on the main streets right before many of the holidays. And the Christmas season is bright as well. When you’re new to Charleston, you soon realize you have to keep a calendar of the events you want to attend.
There are newspapers that list the events for the month and there are also Facebook pages you can ‘like’ and follow. One I particularly like is 'Explore Charleston' on social media.
Some of the celebrations start in November and go into the New Year. The 'James Island Holiday Festival of Lights’ is one that starts in November from 5:30-10 pm. Drive through the County Park and view the extraordinary light displays. Besides driving through you can also park and enjoy attractions such as marshmallow roasting, train rides, and more.
The historic Circular Congregational Church in Downtown Charleston hosts ‘The Sound of Charleston’ which includes Gospel, Jazz, Classics, and music of the Civil War. You’re sure to be entertained and will also learn a good bit during the 75-minute event.
A light show event I enjoy every year, and not just because it’s FREE, is 'Christmas in Charleston at the College of Charleston in the Cistern Yard'. You walk through the campus and view the light display on the buildings and live Oaks that are set to music. The lights blink and flash to the music! It was designed by lighting designer, Emmy Award winner John Reynolds. It’s so much fun to watch. The shows are from 5:30-9 pm nightly and start new every thirty minutes.
There’s a Holiday Market and plenty of shows. The best way to get the full list is by following Explore Charleston!
You can also follow me on social media! I’m on Facebook & Instagram @yourhomeincharleston If you’d like more info you can always reach out by text, phone, or email. I’d be happy to share real estate market updates with you too.
