Only 12 miles from historic Charleston, the tranquil Isle of Palms is both a residential and resort community nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.

IOP boasts six miles of coast and fifty access points, which makes it easy to have the perfect beach day. IOP is an upscale, quiet vibe and differs from some of the more bustling beaches filled with young visitors.

You will never be bored with an array of water sports, including kayaking and paddleboarding. Land activities like golf, tennis, and shopping on Ocean Boulevard will keep you busy for hours with the best beach shops and places to find the perfect souvenir. But, of course, it is also completely acceptable if you prefer soaking in the tranquility of the beautifully soft and light sandy beaches.

If your pup loves the saltwater, make sure to bring them along! IOP is one of the most dog-friendly beaches in South Carolina because the city allows dogs on the beach all day and year-round. Please be sure to check the rules for dogs on the beach.

We also recommend visiting Shem Creek for dinner if time allows you. Shem Creek is about 20 minutes from IOP in Mount Pleasant and is home to some of the best dining in the area. It’s the perfect spot for a sunset dinner with several options right on the waterway. If you’re looking for another option on the water, Coconut Joe’s Beach Grill is a fun spot with great views, a large rooftop bar, and classic seafood. If you’re looking for simple comfort food, Papi’s Taqueria serves up all kinds of wonderful tacos. Ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s is the perfect finale and a traditional end to a day at IOP.

The Isle of Palms is a unique barrier island on the coast of South Carolina known for its pristine beaches and clean water. This world-renowned vacation destination is the perfect place to play and live. Many thanks to my wonderful friend, Susan Schaeffer, for the use of her pics.

I would love to explore options with you, including fractional ownership of one of the many beach properties available.
