Multigenerational Living

Many families are considering the multi-generational living arrangement. Others are making a move to live within close distance of family members. It can be advantageous to both older parents and their children. And then add in grandchildren and the pluses multiply.

It’s more attainable now because people are able to take advantage of working from home.

If you’re living up north getting tired of the cold weather, high property taxes, being a shut-in until spring, you should consider moving south with your whole family! It’s substantially more affordable across the board ie: home prices, property taxes, and the cost of living.

Many new homes are being built with multi-generations in mind. They offer private entryways with a small kitchen area and living area. Life is short and if you can be with your family and still get away to your own little refuge it’s worth it.

Some, like myself, moved within 2 tenths of a mile of our daughter and her family. It’s wonderful being near for fun or when you’re needed in a pinch.  We are there for the grandchildren when the parents can’t be. We have a modest new home in Murrells Inlet and a pied-a-terre type condo in Charleston so we get to see our son and his family too!

The Murrells Inlet area and the Charleston area differ a bit in pricing and lifestyle. If you’re sharing the cost of a home, it may very well be an option for you. Both areas allow for quick access to the beaches, restaurants, shopping, and good schools.

If you miss your parents and wish your children could have their grandparents nearby with an active role in their lives, give me a call and I’d be happy to discuss different options with you.
