Blog > New Glass Recycling Program on the Isle of Palms
Your trash could become your new counters!
Thanks to the newly appointed Environmental Advisory Committee on Isle of Palms, SC, a new glass recycling program was recently put into place on the Isle of Palms. While Charleston County will still pick up glass, most of the glass collected in the recycle bins goes to the landfill and is not, in fact, recycled.
When the Environmental Advisory committee was informed of this situation, they invited Fisher
Recycling to present glass recycling options for the island. Fisher Recycling turns recycled glass into beautiful, one-of-a-kind countertops, shower walls, pool and fireplace surrounds, and bathroom vanities via GlassEco Surfaces, founded by Fisher, as a way to complete the recycling loop and minimize their ecological footprint. All glass collected by Fisher is processed in SC.
Based on this information, the Isle of Palms City Council contracted with Fisher Recycling to create a convenient drop off/pick up site for the residents of Isle of Palms. The bright green bins are located at Bunch Park, a small green space adjacent to the Harris Teeter shopping plaza on Isle of Palms.
This initiative is just one example of the forward-thinking residents living on the Isle of Palms. This island is a little piece of paradise, and the residents strongly support maintaining the natural beauty and resources that come with island life. As an appointed advisor on this committee, I am excited to share our progress and ideas. Stay tuned to my blog for more sustainability initiatives coming soon to Isle of Palms.
