On a road to answers - keeping our kids healthy

Being a mom of a healthy four-year-old, I always saw posts about sick children and always thought to myself, "This would never happen to me", just like any other human. When I had my second child it seemed like things were going well.

Fast forward to around 2.5 months later, I get a call from daycare that I need to pick my child up. He is running a fever and is breathing funny. I leave work and head to daycare to pick him up and take him to the ER. Once we got to the ER they put him on oxygen and took a bunch of bloodwork to see what they could figure out. This started a long road of hospital stays, different hospital visits, surgeries, procedures, doctors appointments, imaging, quarterly bloodwork, and a lot of uncertainty.

Fast forward again to the age of three, we were fed up with no explanation as to why our child has had pneumonia about 20 times in his short life. He had been admitted for the flu, RSV, and pneumonia all at once. I was done. I told the doctors that this would be the last time he was seen in this specific hospital because we are getting nowhere with getting a diagnosis to get him the right treatment.

That's when a new face came into his room and asked me to give them one more chance to get this figured out. Skeptical about everything, we decided to give this new physician a chance to help our son. Within just a few short months with this physician and help from another new face, we had a diagnosis of asthma, specific antibody disorder, and bronchitis. A treatment plan was in place and we were on a road to getting our son as healthy as we could with what was going on with his little body.

To this day I could not be more thankful for that physician walking into our room at the hospital that we have come to love. Children with respiratory issues are dear to my heart and will forever be.

If you have a child with respiratory issues, do you wonder if your house is hurting or helping? Let's get together and find the healthiest house for you.
