Blog > We visited Boone Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, a must see in Charleston!
Driving into the plantation the grounds are so charming with incredible Oak trees and lots of hanging moss everywhere.
We had family visiting us so while they were here, we decide to check out Boone Hall Plantation with them. What an interesting visit it was. The first thing we did was go on the Plantation Tractor Tour and that was great. It takes about 30 minutes goes around the entire 738 acres the entire plantation and or guide explained everything. It remains a working farm which was fascinating to see. Certain times of the year locals can come and pick strawberries.
We joined the tour of the Boone family’s mansion built in 1936 and in excellent condition. The tour is on the first floor with recovered materials and antique furnishings and brick walls and ceilings. The grounds are stunning as was the inside of the home. Oak trees and other gorgeous plants and trees everywhere.
It is sad to think of what the slaves went through and how they lived especially compared to the Boone family lifestyle, but it is part of history, and the entire experience was educational, exploring the plantation culture. The Black history area is where the 9 original slave cabins are kept. Very small cabins showing differing aspects of their daily like and the struggles they faced. It shows periods of history and progression up to the present day.
