Blog > Are You Familiar with Charleston's Wagener Terrace Neighborhood?
Charleston is comprised of different boroughs or neighborhoods.
Wagener Terrace is along the north-west side of the peninsula. The west borders the Ashley River marshes and runs east to Rutledge Ave. On the south border, you'll see Hampton Park and the Citadel Military College.
If you're looking for tree-lined streets, walkability, front porches, backyards and friendly neighbors you should take a ride through Wagener Terrace. You can browse here to see Wagener Terrace Homes for Sale.
Frederick Wagener purchased the 34-acre waterfront plantation from William Lowndes in the late 1800's. It was named Wagener Terrace Subdivision when James Sottile purchased it in 1917. He subdivided 20 of the acres into residential lots. These 1920-1940 style cottages are very desirable in today's real estate market. The main house on the remaining 14 acres, known as Lowndes Grove Plantation, is in the National Register of Historic Places and is an exclusive wedding venue.
If you'd like to explore Downtown Charleston you can contact me and I'll put together a tour packet and we can include some private home showings of houses currently for sale in any part of the peninsula. 843-256-3348, donna.andreano@agentowner.net, www.yourhomeincharleston.com
