Poetry, Passion, and Presentation .... All in 1!

Charleston South Carolina is, as you know, a historic city filled with history, stories, architecture, music, and art. Today I'd like to tell you about Charleston's first Poet Laureate, Marcus Amaker. We had the pleasure of meeting Marcus when we were living Downtown. He's a down to earth, calm, peaceful, new dad who writes about life as he sees it. His works cover a wide variety of subjects and many are based on social injustice. He doesn't just write or read his poems, he performs them...in a rhythmic, musical, poetic song. A 3D art form if you will.

He performs his art of poetry and music at many different venues throughout the city. He's performed at the opening of the Wine and Food Festival, Mayor Tecklenburg's Inauguration, he's the artist in residence at the Gailliard, has in-person readings at local libraries, and inspires many students in the Charleston schools. He attended USC for journalism and English and has worked as a graphic design for the Post and Courier.

His current role as a new dad is taking his art in yet another direction. Many feelings and emotions have surfaced in his writings since becoming a father. They touch audiences of all ages, races, creeds, whether they're parents or not.

Take it from me, you'll enjoy following him on social media, reading his books, listening to his albums, and bumping into him in local restaurants. If you see him say hello!

You can see a write up about him in the Nov./Dec. issue of Charleston Living Magazine. If you'd like more info on Charleston happenings, artists, or events you can contact me at 843-256-3348 or donna.andreano@agentownedrealty.com
