Beautiful Wannamaker Park

Social distance and a day at the park.

I went exploring more options to get out and enjoy the beautiful summer day while practicing social distancing. This trip was to a local Charleston County Park called Wannamaker Park. This park has a lot to offer to satisfy both children and adults alike. 

For the family, there is a water park Whirlin Water where you can enjoy the large water slides or play in the pool of waves. The water park has made several changes to ensure everyone is social distancing the best of their ability. The sprinkler water play is currently closed.

The park offers children play areas with multiple playgrounds that the children can choose from to entertain themselves. There are also volleyball and horseshoes areas for you to enjoy. For the more adventuring children, there is a huge hill which the children can race up and down.

While at the park, I had a chance to see a few alligators and turtles swimming in the Lagoon. This is the first time I have actually seen them out swimming in all the times I've been to the park. The signs are posted, but this is my first time seeing them out in the water. 

The park is pet friendly and has a large area for your furry friend to run and play. The dog play area is broken into two parts one for smaller dogs 25lbs and under and one for larger breeds. Dogs are allowed on the trails and other areas of the park as long as they are on a leach. 

The trails in the park are great for walking, running, and biking. The trails have both paved and unpaved sections according to the routes you chose. The majority of the trails a cover with natural tree lining, which makes it more comfortable for a day time walk in the Charleston Summer.
