Is an HOA right for you?

I have had many clients tell me they want a property with no HOA, and I understand that they don't want the additional cost and restrictions involved with an HOA or Homeowners Associations, but are there advantages to having one?
The answer is yes. Most new communities have an HOA who maintains common areas, pools, trails, or clubhouses for community use. Property owners may have to get approval for any outside upgrades such as fences or paint colors for exterior painting, to keep the neighborhood looking like the original plan, HOA's can have different rules and regulations so if you are buying in a community with an HOA you need to read the guidelines to understand what will be allowed or not allowed once you live in your home and if you can adhere to the rules.
HOA's are a great way to help maintain your property value if or when you decide to sell.
