Boone Hall Plantation

Boone Hall Plantation was the one place I most wanted to see when I made my first trip to Charleston almost 20 years ago and it's still one of my favorite places to visit.

Nestled in the heart of Mount Pleasant off of Long Point Road, Boone Hall is called "America's most photographed plantation," and it's not hard to see why. As you drive down the breathtaking Avenue of Oaks towards the plantation house, you can't help but think about the history of this antebellum plantation.

Nine of the original slave cabins, called the slave street, still stand on the property. Each cabin has an exhibit detailing the history of slave life at Boone Hall. Other things to see are a cotton gin, the original smokehouse from the 1700s, a butterfly garden, and a cotton dock. You can spend hours walking around the grounds, through the brick-paved flower gardens, along the tidal creeks, and under the Spanish moss dripping from the live oaks.

Besides daily tours of the plantation, Boone Hall also hosts other events during the year. The annual Low County Oyster Festival is held every January. The Scottish games are held every fall, and Wine Under the Oaks is held annually in December. Boone Hall has also become a popular wedding destination.

Interested in visiting Boone Hall Plantation? It's open for tours every day except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and during their annual special events.  Check out their website for more information!
