Keep Your Home in Good Repair

You may own your own home or you may be in the market to buy a home.  Either way, when you own a home there are maintenance issues that should be addressed regularly.  A home is most likely your most valuable asset.  Many homeowners don't realize how important it is to make cosmetic repairs as well as necessary safety repairs throughout your homeownership.  A home with a cracked front walkway is a hazard as well as a 'turn off' to a potential buyer.  You may have been living in the home so many years with the broken window that you don't even notice it but a potential buyer is going to notice it. All of these cosmetic and or safety concerns will add up over the years and may seem overwhelming to you when have to replace or repair in order to sell your home.  

Start now, don't delay, when something needs attention it's better to spend the few dollars to repair it now than to let it stay in that condition and possibly create more problems.  Have you been meaning to 'patch the roof'?  Well, a new roof will ADD quite a bit to your selling price...or the buyer will DEDUCT the amount from their offer!  And don't forget to update those 70's curtains!  Young buyers want to see current trends!

I suggest you take a look at your home as if you're seeing it for the first time.  Walk up your front walk, enter and go from room to room. When was the last time you painted?  Is the wallpaper in the bathroom peeling?  Wallpaper??? Remove it and paint!  Keep going room by room and look at everything.  You don't have to spend a lot of money.  Just removing things that are outdated will help too!
