Charleston is not only a great place to live, but it's also a great place to own a dog!

Our charming city welcomes its arms to these furry companions and offers many spots where you can enjoy time with your pet.

As summer approaches, one of the top destinations is our fabulous beaches. See below for a round-up of the best spots to take your dog(s) and the local rules and regulations.

Isle of Palms - IOP welcomes dogs year-round, but they are only allowed off-leash from 4-10 pm 9/15 - 3/31 and from 5-9 am from 4/1 to 9/14. All other times the dogs must be on-leash, even in the water.

Kiawah (Beachwalker Park) - Dogs are welcome all day, on-leash year-round at this top summer destination!

Folly Beach - Folly allows dogs on the beach on-leash from October through April. May through September, dogs aren't allowed during the daytime hours of 10 am - 6 pm.

Sullivan's Island - SI requires that all pet owners obtain a dog permit from city hall (residents - $20, non-residents - $40.) From October through April, dogs may be off-leash from 5 am to 12 pm and on-leash the rest of the time. May through September, dogs can be off-leash from 5-10 am, on-leash from 6 pm-5 am, and aren't allowed on the beach from 10 am through 6 pm.
