Lowcountry Traditions

One of the most famous low country traditions is the Oyster Roasts.

First, you need to get some supplies as they may or may not be provided for you. You’ll need an oyster shucker and some gloves. You can get a personalized engraved oyster shucker at Charleston Shucker Company

This is usually an outdoor event done in the fall or winter and is as much about socializing as it is eating. It’s not unusual to find a live band and a nice fire going to keep guests entertained in comfort! Yes, it can be cold in the Lowcountry from time to time.

So on each table, you usually find saltines, hot sauce, and horseradish. I normally bring my own towels as I go through a few! You will then pick your spot as you await the oysters to be emptied onto your table for your shucking pleasure.

Things are done a bit differently now so that we can stay safe and practice social distancing. Arts Bar and Grill in Mt. Pleasant has an indoor seating area and they bring them directly to your table. Zavarella’s in Charleston had tables set up for social distancing and they're brought to your table by bucket only.

Container Bar had a wonderful St. Patricks day oyster roast!  I’ve included a few pics of some of the oyster roast before we practiced social distancing and after.

At Zavarella's there was a pearl in my oyster! Imagine my surprise!!

You know you really can’t tell if there is a pearl in an oyster from looking at it from the outside. The same way that you can't tell what a Realtor has to offer you without having an in-depth conversation. Contact me today to talk about all your real estate needs. I look forward to being of assistance to you.
