Mom and the Hurricane

 Well, it could not have been better timing, or so I thought ! I had invited my mom to visit me here in Charleston.  October is the perfect month when the weather is no longer hot and humid but still warm and definitely warmer than in Germany at this time of the year. 

And then "Matthew" was announced to arrive in the Low Country just when her plane was to arrive in Charlotte NC.  I could not return to Charleston and so what do to and where to go without stressing my 83 year old mom out and having her scared like crazy ?

And so I labeled her vacation an "adventure trip".  We took a trip to Boone NC and to Blowing Rock NC, and I made sure she got a little tipsy during the wine tasting tour, and a bit tired from sightseeing. I picked a bed & breakfast w/o TV in the room and turned off the radio with the weather news. Finally returned to Charleston taking the back roads thru Holly Hill and Moncks Corner avoiding traffic and signs of flooding. 

All is good now ! She is cooking and baking and she is not sure what to make of the good amount of small tree limbs in my yard. Sun is out and it is a glorious day in South Carolina ! My friends and neighbors came over to help me cleaning up my yard. It was fun teamwork with laughter, snacks, some beer and wine in between and moms home cooked meals!  All is good here. We are Charleston STRONG and the help and reaching out among neighbors and citizens is astonishing and wonderful!
