Mt Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park - Something for Everyone
Nestled under the Arthur Ravenel Bridge lies a stunning 14 acres full of amenities and picture-perfect views. The Mt Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park is a wonderful place for residents and visitors alike to slow down and capture some relaxation.
The park is actually quite unassuming in its ability to wash your cares away. The further you travel from the parking lot towards the water, the more you’ll want to stay. At the front of the park, you are greeted by the Visitor’s Center and the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Pavilion. As you travel towards the water, you come to a playground made to mimic the Ravenel Bridge, a vast grassy area, and a war memorial. As if all of this wasn’t enough, to complete your visit you end up at the 1250’ long Mt Pleasant Pier! One of the longest in Charleston County, this pier stretches out over the Charleston Harbor and offers amazing views and photo opportunities.
If you’re just in town for a short trip, you’ll want to stop by to get a quick history on sweetgrass baskets, view the war memorial honoring the region’s local heroes, and walk the pier. However, if you're a local or staying a while, you’ll want to give this park a little more of your time. You could start with a picnic lunch on the lawn, and if you didn’t pack one, you could grab something at the River Watch Cafe and Gift Shop located on the pier. You could then peruse the sweetgrass baskets and any other traveling collections they may be offering at the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Pavilion and from there take a stroll through the War Memorial. This thought-provoking memorial was created by the renowned sculptor known for creating Washington DC's World War II Memorial, Raymond Kaskey. After the War Memorial, the little ones will definitely need to shake out their sillies and will have a great time doing it at the “bridge” themed playground. Top off your visit by taking in the views, in all directions, while walking the pier. This just might do you in for the day, but if not check out my next blog where I’ll fill you in on more of what the pier has to offer and the special events that Mt Pleasant Memorial Park is home to.
If you just can’t wait until my next blog to find out more or if you’d like to look for a home not far from this great park, comment below or contact me and we can start the search.
