A neighborhood amenity saving the day!
When my friends ask me how I am surviving the quarantine while working from home with four little kids who are suddenly with me ALL the time, I quickly tell them it's because I am fortunate to live in a neighborhood that features a 95-acre nature preserve as its primary amenity!!! Located next to the Limehouse Bridge off of Chisolm road, Grimball Gates is a small gated community with approximately 80 homes. Established in 2001, the Homeowners Association negotiated a long term lease with the Army Corps of Engineers, allowing access to a two-mile island, which offers a pristine natural habitat for wildlife and shorebirds.
There is a community dock for fishing and swimming, a picnic cabana for small outdoor gatherings, and miles of walking trails. During the eight week lockdown, this little jewel of an island has saved my sanity! My kids have become ardent fossil and sharks tooth hunting enthusiasts, and I have had a wonderful place to walk every evening to unwind from stress and soak up the beauty of mother nature. We have all benefitted tremendously from having a little extra space to breathe, and right now, to this exhausted mom, that has made all the difference in the world!
