Blog > New Isle of Palms Beach Rules
The new year is upon us, and the weather continues to be mild here in the coastal region of Charleston. Many visitors and residents are taking advantage of the warmer temps by frequenting some of the local beaches including those at Isle of Palms. The island boasts 7 miles of gorgeous sandy beaches that can be accessed by 57 public beach access paths.
The following rules have been implemented in IOP starting in 2020 to protect this favorite local stretch of sand.
1. Dogs are only allowed off-leash in the summer months from 4/1 - 9/14 between 5am and 9am and off-season from 9/15 - 3/31 between 4pm and 10am. All other times dogs must be on-leash, and their owners must clean up after them.
2. The following is prohibited :
- bonfires and fireworks
- overnight sleeping
- commercial business
- alcohol and glass bottles
- jet skis and motorboats that are operated in designated swimming areas
- beach equipment that is left overnight
- motorized vehicles
- smoking of any sort
- littering
- single-use plastic or Styrofoam straws, coolers, food or beverage receptacles and balloons
3. Beach visitors must use the public access paths to protect the fragility of the sand dunes.
4. Do not interfere with the sea turtles as they are an endangered species.
These mindful rules will keep our beaches pristine for years to come!
