Blog > Pets....They Need a HOME Too!
Our pets are such an important part of our family.
Sitting here wondering how to be happy about blogging, and then I thought....what's wrong with being sad.
Today my buddy Jet aka: Jetina, Jet Jet, Jeter Buter...he died suddenly....no indication of health issues, not hit by a car...he just died. I am not just sad; I am devastated!
That being said, I look back at on the 6 precious years he was part of my family. I did for him and do for my pets better than I do for myself. I choose to live where not only makes me happy but my pets happy because, of course, THEY ARE FAMILY.
This is, of course, a real estate blog; look at my Facebook and its pure boo-hooing, but I thought to myself today, my pets are my family-my family is home, I purchase homes based on what is not only a great school district for my daughter but what is also great for my pets.
I have a long decision of making poor pet "community" choices while purchasing homes.
When I was living in Coosaw Creek, not only did I place a horse in my front yard for my daughter to ride during the Kentucky Derby but added a pig (Pigmund Freud), some ducks, and chickens.
But let's talk about pets.... ARE THEY IMPORTANT? YES! YES! YES!
According to the latest study from realtor.com, 95% of respondents said pets play a role in selecting a home.
Kay Hyman, the Director of Community Engagement at the Charleston Animal Society, believes pet owners definitely need to keep their pets in mind when moving to a new area, "choosing a new school for your children should be just as important as choosing a new community for your pet."
According to Realtor.com, that is true of pet owners surveyed in a recent study. A whopping 95% said pets play a role in selecting a new home.
WOW---what does that mean?
A recent study from the NY Times broke it down as follows.
- 49% requested fenced yard
- 27% home large enough for the house and a pet
- 3% pet-friendly flooring
- 2% dog door
- 2% cat litter closet
