Summerville and Pine Trees - Did you know?

Today I spent some time in beautiful downtown Summerville's Hutchinson square. If anyone isn't familiar with this beautiful place, it is in the heart of Summerville on Main St in front of a row of wonderful businesses. The town has placed a fountain, beaches under beautiful trees so you can walk or just sit and enjoy the peacefulness of the town.

Summerville became an official town in 1847. The town passed a law not to cut trees of sizes or be fined—the first of the kind in the United States. Today the motto "The Pine is Sacred" is displayed at the entrance of the square.

In 1899, the International Congress of Physicians listed Summerville to be one of the two best areas in the world for treatment and recovery of lung and throat disorders due to its dry and sandy location, and the many pine trees in the area that release turpentine derivatives into the air.

Today Summerville is still a wonderful town with beautiful flowers, trees, and a great place to live.

So if you are looking for a glass of iced tea or just a quiet place to relax for a few minutes, you might just try downtown, Summerville. Let me know what you think!
