Blog > That time of the year-Snakes
As many of us are going outside with our children or pets during this time of self- isolation, we need to be aware that this is the time of year when snakes also are out and about.
Your chances of seeing a snake are probably low but can happen as we know. What do you do if you do see one? Try to stay calm and give it room to get away most snakes don’t like us either and will go away, keep your pets away if possible, don’t throw rocks or sticks at it to agitate into a fight mode.
Remove debris in your yard, snakes like wood piles, thick vegetation, places to hide, be cautious when you approach these areas where snakes might hide.
In the unlikely event, you or someone does get bit –Dial 911 immediately, Don’t panic, stay still, don’t wash, suck or tourniquet the bite, remove jewelry before swelling occurs.
Although we need to be aware of our surroundings at all times, I do hope you take advantage of the many walking paths either in your neighborhood or area near you. Here are some of my favorites:
- The Oakbrook Nature Trail
- Azala Park
- Downtown Summerville on a nice day!
Enjoy our beautiful Lowcountry.
