How Do I Get Ready to List?
Selling your home can be a major undertaking. One has to consider where they’re moving next, what to sell and what to bring, logistics of the move, etc. - and all of this must be accomplished while prepping and maintaining your home for showings.
Here are a few ways to maximize your home’s appeal to potential buyers and minimize the amount of showings needed to get an offer.
1. It’s all about the smell. First impressions are everything, and an off smell can be an instant deal-breaker. Be sure to clean carpets and other soft surfaces which smells cling to and use a neutral air freshener if need be.
2. Speaking of first impressions, your home’s curb appeal can also make or break a deal. Grass should be mowed, bushes trimmed, and paint freshened up to enhance the home’s exterior look. A few annuals around the entryway or mailbox may also help to add a welcoming pop of color.
3. In addition to the exterior, the interior of the home should also be addressed. Enhance a room’s visual appeal by de-cluttering, removing personal items such as family photos and keeping a clean and neutral look. The goal is to make the space appeal to as many buyers as possible and have it be an area where someone can envision themselves living.
4. Let there be light! Finally, remove any heavy drapes or window coverings which block light. People are attracted to light and bright spaces. You’ll also want to turn on all of the home’s lights before a viewing.
