Welcome to Wild Dunes Part 2: Twin Oaks

Welcome back to South Carolina, into Isle of Palms’s beautiful Wild Dunes!

It is a wonderful day here on the island, and specifically, here in this sunny island gated community!  Up first on our tour of the neighborhoods is Twin Oaks.

Twin Oaks Wild Dunes Entrance with Black and White Dog

When driving down Palmetto Blvd, one would think Twin Oaks is the most patriotic neighborhood on the Island.  The numerous flags dawning the entrance create a festive sense of national pride! This neighborhood, in the heart of the resort, is so close (yet off the beaten path) to the Harbor Golf course, lap pool, world-class tennis courts, and many other exciting activities.  And the beach… just a short walk away.

The 65 elevated island cottages sport wonderful private decks and screened porches. Several of these homes overlook a lagoon and the Wild Dunes Links Golf Course, while the lush backdrop of perfectly landscaped plants, grasses, and trees establish an elevated resort-meets-island feel.  Another special touch is the fact that certain areas are manicured with beautiful southern pine straw, my preferred mulch of South Carolina! Yes, that wonderful pine straw so near and dear to me personally, my father, a great gardener, would come to visit with a pickup load full of pine straw just for me, to ”mulch” our lawn in Virginia!

The typical Twin Oaks island cottage has three bedrooms and two baths. Many have been updated and a few are ready for you to customize according to your preferences! Most of the floor plans are pretty similar, with the master bedroom and the en suite bath on one side of the cottage and 2 bedrooms and a bath on the other. Cottages host under-house and driveway parking.  A few have elevators and even fireplaces. Golf carts are allowed and are very convenient when going to the beach and touring the resort.  Another fun fact… there are “Owner Beach Access golf cart parking spots” just for you, the homeowner!

If you’re still not convinced just how special these homes are, when I asked one home owner if he was ready to list his home he told me “Emily, I live right here in paradise between the Intercoastal and the Atlantic Ocean, why would I ever want to leave!”
