Blog > What you need to know as Charleston Parks & Beaches Re-Open
Re-opening has begun!
Over the course of the past week and a half, some of my favorite outdoor short spots have re-opened, but with rules in place to not spread COVD-19.
Last week a few of my favorite parks opened. I can now go for my morning run to the Memorial Waterfront Park and Mt. Plesant Pier. In the Old Village, I can take my Cocker Spaniel Charlie to the dog park behind Alahambra Hall or down the Pitt Street Bridge.
We also saw Isle of Pams lead the pack in the re-opening of beaches last week. It opened with it's "Keep it Moving" Policy May 6, which allows beach use for exercise only (running, biking, surfing, dog walking). No more than groups of 3 people are permitted, and there is no sitting or loitering. Sullivan's Island re-opened May 12, with the same "Keep it Moving" Policy. Folly Beach was the last to re-open on Friday, May 15. They did not adopt the "Exercise Only" ordinance, but do require social distancing and no groups larger than 3 except for families.
Short-term rentals are also now allowed in Isle of Palms and Folly Beach again with some restrictions. Most restaurants on each beach are outdoor dining only, but they are open! I can't wait to grab a Pina Colada and coconut shrimp at Coconut Joe's!
What place are you most looking forward to having open again?
