Mt. Pleasant Pier - Lots to do!

If you have driven over the Ravenel Bridge, surely you’ve caught a glimpse of Mt Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park which was featured in my last blog. However, if you’ve never visited the park, you’ve missed out on its crown jewel, the Pier. Mt. Pleasant Pier is one of the longest in Charleston County at 1,250’. Stretching out over the Charleston Harbor, the Pier offers amazing views and photo opportunities on top of the special events that are offered there. From fishing to dancing, the Pier offers lots of ways to incorporate beautiful harbor views into your week.

The most obvious way to appreciate the Pier is to take in the fantastic views of the harbor, the wildlife, and passing boats by just enjoying a leisurely stroll over the water. You will have amazing photo opportunities, whether you choose to sit, swing, or stroll. Come prepared for lunch if you like, but you don’t have to, the Pier is home to the River Watch Cafe and Gift Shop. The cafe offers tasty made-to-order sandwiches, fresh-baked pastries, and ice cream and you can pick up a lovely souvenir or gift at the same time. The cafe and shop are open varied hours between 8:00 and 5:00 in the winter and 6:00 and 10:00 in the summer. Make sure to check their website for the seasonal hours, www.ccprc.com.

Of course, it’s a pier, so there will be fishing! Locals and visitors alike are able to purchase fishing passes for the whole year or just the day. If you didn’t pack your rod, don’t worry, there are rod rentals and bait available there. The Pier also hosts a Reel it in Monthly Challenge and Cast Off fishing tournaments, both of which offer prizes.

A less obvious way to enjoy the Pier is dancing, or as we like to call our Charleston style, shagging. Shaggin’ on the Cooper is a popular summer event held on Saturday nights under the 8,100 square-foot pavilion at the end of the Pier. Young and old alike can show off their skills at the same time as taking in the breathtaking views and to top it all off, local bands provide live music.

Although these are the more popular ways the community enjoys the Pier, there is even more offered there, including yoga. So make sure to follow Charleston County Parks on Facebook or visit their website at www.ccprc.com, so you don’t miss out on the fun.

If you’d like to move closer to the Pier to enjoy every moment of what it has to offer, give me a call at (843)513-8319. Obviously, there are lots of condos in the area, but if you prefer a home within walking distance, there are lots of nearby neighborhoods, The Groves and Cooper Estates, to name a few. Visit my webpage, YourLowcountryHomes.com, to check out what’s available to buy or rent near the Pier.
