Property Description

Perfectly suited for use as a hunting retreat, wedding venue or weekend getaway, the plantation features a +/- 3-acre live oak grove. In addition, two live oak avenues line the entrances. Currently, +/- 45 acres of open land serve as farm, dove and hay fields. The +/-144 acres of wooded area consist mostly of magnificent, natural, old-growth pine and hardwood. The pines include several stands of 1992 pine plantations around the edges of the field. Well-built roads and trails provide excellent access throughout the property.Located approximately 35 miles from Charleston and about 70 miles from Savannah, Pon Pon Plantation offers a unique blend of luxurious living and outdoor adventure. In fact, it is the ultimate destination for those seeking luxury, relaxation, and an authentic connection to the past. The current owners have enjoyed creating memories with family and friends on this property for over twenty-five years. Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history and create your own legacy at Pon Pon Plantation.

Situated in the ACE Basin of South Carolina, Pon Pon Plantation was named after the Native Americans' term for South Edisto River, "Pon Pon." The history of this impressive +/- 195-acre estate dates back to the early 1700s, when the Lords Proprietors granted the land to John Jackson. Over time, the property changed hands multiple times. Eventually, Mary Izard Middleton, wife of Arthur Middleton, whose signature you will find on the Declaration of Independence, inherited the plantation. Mary left the property to their son, John Izard Middleton, sometime after 1759. Subsequent ownership through 1865 is difficult for historians to trace, since Union forces destroyed most legal documents in this geographical area.

Built in 1992, the Georgian-style main house boasts an open floor plan, high ceilings, beautiful wood floors, and fireplaces. The kitchen features top-of-the-line Viking and Sub Zero appliances. Renovated slave quarters serve as a two-bedroom, one-bathroom guest house. Majestic live oaks surround both houses and create a picturesque scene. The grounds also include a walk in stable, equipment shed, and multi-purpose building with a five-bay garage, office, and storage room.

The homes are being sold furnished. Farm equipment may be purchased separately.
