Being born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, I consider myself lucky to call it home. I went to Bishop England High School and graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in History. Soon after graduating, I began a seven-year career in the medical field specializing in pre and post-operative care for neurosurgical patients. After I transitioned to real estate, I brought the same compassion, drive, and determination to my clients just as I had done with my patients. Helping patients deal with a life-changing surgery gave me the tools to better assist my clients in a life-changing moment: buying and selling their homes.

Do you have a preference when it comes to working with buyers or sellers?

- No preference here! I genuinely enjoy working with both buyers and sellers.

Which areas do you specialize in?

- The benefit of my upbringing in Charleston is that I know it and the surrounding areas very well. I work everywhere from Johns Island to Summerville and everything in between.

I am an out-of-state buyer relocating to Charleston; besides using you as my agent, who else is part of the home-buying process, and how do I find them?

- The loan officer who works for the mortgage company (if you're using a home loan to purchase), the home inspector, and the closing attorney. I have a list of several of these highly recommended professionals that I will provide you.

I am a first-time buyer. Please briefly explain the process, timeframe, costs, and what I should expect.

- I will do my best to give you the abridged version. From start to finish, the buying process typically takes about 6-8 weeks (this can be longer or shorter, depending on the circumstances). If you're using a loan to buy your home, you first want to talk to the loan officer with the mortgage company or bank to determine the price point you feel most comfortable being in. They will provide me with a pre-approval letter that I will send to accompany any offer sent. If you're a cash buyer, you'll need to provide me with a proof of funds letter that I send along with your offer.

Once you've done that, you tell me what your must-haves are for your home then I get to work researching homes and setting up showing appointments. When you find "the one," I write the offer, put my keen negotiation skills to work, and viola! We go under contract on your new home! The next step is the home inspection. The cost usually depends given on the size of the house; typically, they start at $300 and go up from there. Once the inspection is done and you have time to go over the report, you decide if there are any repairs you want to be taken care of before closing. You will provide me a list of items you want to be addressed, I will put my keen negotiation skills to work again, and viola! The seller agrees. After this is done, the lender will order the appraisal. The appraisal cost will vary depending on the size of the home, but they typically start at $450. If you're a cash buyer, I always recommend having an appraisal done, but it's entirely up to you. Once the appraisal comes back, either at or higher than the contract price, and you've secured your financing, congrats! You've made it to closing day! (Note: If you're a buyer, you do not pay me anything! In South Carolina, sellers typically pay commissions)
