Charleston Harbor - Don't Miss the View!,Kathy Rambo

The Charleston Harbor is extremely busy these days with historical container volumes. Each day an average of 5 vessels enters the Charleston Harbor, carrying cargo worth more than $200 million. South Carolina ports report from January through June 2021, 1,335,093 ships have entered the port. MarineTraffic - This is a fantastic ship tracking App. It provides information about the vessels coming and going in the Charleston Harbor. MarineTraffic displays near real-time positions of ships and yachts worldwide. You can view vessels on the live map as they move about.  By clicking on the vessel, you can see a picture, ports of call, country flag, speed, weight, year built, and lots of other interesting facts. Other information available from MarineTraffic is live wind and 24-hour wind forecasts, a route planner to measure distance and calculate ETA, real-time port information, and animated playback of the vessel’s track. Augmented Reality is my favorite feature which identifies vessels around you using your phone camera. If you love watching the ships come and go in our harbor as I do. I highly recommend this App. The cost is $9.99 Annually. Call me today to talk about finding the perfect home where you can watch the ships go by.

Sullivans Island, SC where the living is still quiet and easy..,Ute Appleby

There is simply nothing more relaxing than taking an early morning walk at the beach. And Sullivans Island is still a quiet and pristine spot where one can walk the beach and enjoy the view of dolphins playing close to the shore line, the view to vessels and cruise ships, fishing and sail boats coming in and out of the Charleston harbor. At certain hours locals and visitors can bring their dogs to the beach and let them run free to enjoy the wide beach and the easy waves and currents. Sullivans Island is at the entrance to the Charleston Harbor. The island was named after O'Sullivan, a boat captain who was the first lighthouse keeper of this island's lighthouse. The island is located along the Atlantic Ocean.  The island is bordered to the west by the entrance to Charleston Harbor, to the north by the Intracoastal Waterway, and to the east by Breach Inlet and Swinton Creek. The Ben Sawyer Bridge connects Sullivan's Island to Mount Pleasant to the north. A bridge spanning Breach Inlet connects it to Isle of Palms to the east.  Here on this island one can find stately homes and beach cottages, small local restaurants and unique pubs, tiny boutiques and even an art gallery. Among locals, famous and less famous people, Sullivans island is also the home of a very well known local painter, Mickey Williams, a master of his craft of painting and poetry.  Cruise my website for homes on Sullivans Island at www.DefinitelyCharleston.com or reach me at 843.345.2625 or simply write me an email for more info: mail to:uappleby@gmail.com

  • Don’t Miss the View!!

    Don’t Miss the View!!,Kathy Rambo

We have so many amazing views in the Charleston Area. One of my personal favorites is Charleston Harbor. The Charleston Harbor is an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. This inlet is formed by the joining of the Ashley and Cooper Rivers. Charlestonians have an old saying “The Charleston Harbor is where the Ashley River and the Cooper River join to form the Atlantic Ocean!”. It is fascinating watching all the ships come and go. On May 28, 2021, CC Marco Polo arrived in Charleston Harbor. The Marco Polo at a length of 1300 feet (4.33 football fields) is the largest ship ever to enter the Harbor. The Tugboats are the Beast! They are highly maneuverable pushing and pulling. Tugboats are used to guide every ship in and out of Charleston Harbor. They are relatively small but very powerful for their size. They have to churn enough water to create thrust which can displace and move ships. Tugboats are always working hard in the fog, cold, rain, and heat guiding the massive ships into our harbor home and maneuvering them safely to their destination. Tugboats play a significant role in the berthing process. Call me today to see homes that will give you these amazing views.
